Teachers Open Forum: Practicing Asana (Posture)

A Community Conversation on Steady, Easeful Flexibility in Yoga and Life

Continuing in our series of Raja Yoga (eight-limbed path), we explore Asana—the practice of sthira sukham asanam on and off the mat. We’ll discuss how we find sweet comfort from remaining steady in our practice, grounding in how we pose ourselves during life’s learning opportunities in our daily lives.

Questions to Contemplate:

  • Steady: How do you hold steady in your peace amongst life’s many varied changes? Which Hatha Yoga postures do you notice are easy for you to hold steady and which feel more challenging?

  • Ease and Flexibility: Where in your life can you feel the comfort and sweetness of this opportunity to live in alignment with Peace? What would "easing up" actually look like? Where in your life can you fine-tune balancing ease with effort?

  • Pose: How do you “pose” or “position” yourself in the world authentically? Which Yoga postures bring comfort and/or release to the body or mind? Which do you find take more physical or mental effort to maintain? Which of your mental positions can you invite more flexibility in to experience greater Peace?
