Learn what the "edge" is and how it's used to guide hatha yoga practice.
From Sw. Asokananda:
"Erich Schiffmann brought the concept of “playing the edge” to the yoga world. In my studies with Erich, and then the exploration with my own body, I have made this an important aspect of my hatha yoga practice. It directly links to how Swami Satchidananda guided the Integral Yoga way of hatha yoga.
In this workshop we will:
· Get a clear understanding of what the edge is, as well as how it feels in the body
· How the edge helps us to transform the physical postures into yoga
· The distinction between intensity and pain
· What is the psychological edge vs. the physical edge?
· How to balance the desire to progress in our practice while avoiding the desire to be somewhere else than where we are.
There will be some hatha yoga practice during the program."

Our culture trains us in so many ways to dwell in the head - planning, reasoning and judging - that we become separated from the heart.
In this workshop:
We'll discuss how we can engage the heart in our daily activities by embracing the path of service and feeling the natural flow of compassion that is our nature.
Explore how the practice of surrender includes acknowledging the limitations of the mind, letting go of personal gain and opening to the guidance of the higher Self within.
Use guided reflection, discussion and ritual to open the heart to the presence of Grace that can offer us strength and wisdom on the spiritual path.

Padmasri will share with you concepts of Ayurveda and ways to enrich your sadhana and your students’ lives with Ayurveda.
In this workshop, we will discuss:
1. The five elements theory
2. The twenty gunas theory
3. The importance of agni

Description:
Sometimes, I search for the meaning of life in everyday awareness which includes the heavy, dark and horrific elements to the elegant, geometric and playful expressions. Other times, I search for meaning from sacred texts, meditation practice and writing or through my easeful or challenging relationships with family, friends and strangers. It has become clear to me that the things that feel out of alignment, misunderstood, miscommunicated, often become teachers for that part of us that recognizes the common desire for happiness and Peace.
And for some reason, there is the natural tendency to act and behave in ways that take us far away from that process of contemplation. Whether the broad understanding of karma, the deeply explored dimensions of trauma, or the simple acceptance of life's rhythm of joys and sorrows, a complete Yoga practice can help us sense that place of highest, personal alignment.
The body naturally searches to align in such a way so that it can recognize what part is connected to the ground and what part is reaching upwards towards the sky.
Our body's conversation with gravity and finding our physical balance can be a starting point for understanding alignment as a life practice. What feels off-center to us? What part of us reacts and tries to adjust things back to a comfortable center? How deeply do we understand our center versus how stubbornly do we hold onto a habitual posture in our body/mind. How often do we allow for pause and rest, reflection and creativity as medicine for our ever-conflicting, ever-fluctuating world?
Join Mukunda for this workshop that will be part lecture on Yoga philosophy, gentle movement, meditation and conversation.
All are welcome. No previous experience in Yoga is required.

Can We Share Yoga with Those Who Resist It?
A Workshop About Our Experiences, Ideas, Triumphs and Failures
with Chandra/Jo Sgammato
Calling all Yoga teachers and dedicated practitioners to explore a challenge we likely all share: how to convey our enthusiasm for Yoga in order to convince our loved ones to at least try it. First we must ask ourselves what motivates us to want these people to practice Yoga and then we will have a roundtable Zoom discussion on how (and perhaps how not) to spread the joy we find in our own practice.
Speaker Bio:

How to Teach a Class That Integrates Yoga Philosophy and Asana
with Mia Velez
How can one convey the philosophy of Raja teachings in an asana class? How can we guide our students to demonstrate something like Brahmacharya during Surya Namaskaram or Pranayama? This interactive class will scratch the surface of teaching a multifaceted class that brings Raja teachings in asana, pranayama and meditation. This class includes a 30min themed class and one hour interactive discussion and Q&A.
Mia entered Integral Yoga in 2016 through the kitchen, by cooking community lunches and silent retreat meals. Even though she'd been teaching yoga since 2008, she certified as an Integral Yoga teacher in 2018 to learn more of the IYI approach and be part of the lineage. She is an IYI trainer and co-trained the BIPOC 200 YTTs in San Francisco. She's led a stress management course for new parents, teaches at a men's jail in California, and is a student of kung fu. Mia is a disciple of the Moy Yat Ving Tsun Kung Fu lineage and is highly influenced by her martial arts training. She sees an undeniable parallel in Yoga and Kung Fu, and feels they are complements to each other. Yoga and Kung Fu are integrated into her daily life as a mother, preschool teacher, and advocate for gender, race and class equality through multiple non-profits groups.

Integral Yoga Hatha and Mental Health
with Louis Mahadev Carlino, MA, LPC, E-RYT 500
Advancing in Hatha Yoga has a lot less to do with the shapes that you can get your body into, and more to do with the depth and quality of inner experience. This workshop will begin with an introductory discussion about the difference between an authentic, felt sense of self versus a mentally constructed one. We will then practice an hour of Hatha Yoga together focused on feeling the body (and self) from within. We will close the workshop by sharing our experiences, and learning from each other's descriptions and insights.
A mind in balance with the body is an essential characteristic of mental health. A preoccupation with thinking is a common feather of all manner of mental disturbances including full blown psychiatric disorders. We live in an age where we are bombarded by information, data, and mental processing. Hatha Yoga is as popular as it is today because it runs counter to this cultural tendency. Please join us in an experiential adventure as we learn to appreciate the amazing potency of Hatha Yoga to bring us back into our bodies, and back to a full embodied sense of self.
To prepare for the workshop, please read the following article "Integral Yoga Hatha and Mental Health" by Louis Mahadev Carlino, MA, LPC, E-RYT 500.

The Sun Salutation is a beautiful and beneficial practice that elegantly flows as a moving meditation.
Well, that’s the goal. For most beginning students, Surya Namaskaram does not look or feel anything like a fluid, graceful gesture. My own experience was more similar to a choppy conglomeration of awkward maneuvers punctuated by suffering in stillness. But nowadays, I practice 2 rounds of Sun Salutations as soon as I wake up, and I couldn’t imagine skipping this nourishing ritual.
How can we move our practice, and that of our students, from rough stuff to a fulfilling fluid meditation? In my experience, the divine is in the details. During 10 years of practicing Integral Yoga and 6 years of teaching, I’ve gathered a lot of details that have supported my students and transformed my own salutations.
By refining the alignment of each position to enhance stability and spaciousness, and by coordinating many mini movements for more easeful transitions, this series of 12 individual poses becomes one joyful flow.
In the Surya Namaskaram Lineup workshop, we’ll
In examining and integrating the details of the physical form, we experience that the energetic whole is more powerful than the sum of its parts.

Numerous texts from the Yoga tradition are structured as conversations—fountains of dialogue from which the sacred wisdom of Yoga philosophy springs.
Beyond philosophy, these exchanges themselves often claim to lead one to liberation. What is it that makes engaging in dialogue so deeply fruitful and powerful? How can we harness that power in our everyday interactions with our own inner voice, and with the world around us?
Blending principles of Nonviolent Communication and insight from ancient Sanskrit scripture, we will explore the components of authentic dialogue, and learn how to increase and enrich our sensitivity to both our students and ourselves.

During this hour of pranayama practice, we begin by focusing on the physical effects of breathing, understanding how the exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen impacts our body’s physiology and overall health.
As the session progresses, we shift our attention to the more subtle influences of breath on the mind and spirit, exploring how controlled breathing can calm the mind, enhance emotional balance, and deepen our sense of inner peace.
Through this exploration, participants learn how breath can be a powerful tool for managing stress, improving mental clarity, and supporting spiritual growth, integrating these practices into both daily life and their spiritual journey.

Yoga has always been vegetarian, and later in his life Swami Satchidananda told us that dairy was not necessary for health and it was time to evolve past it. Most people who come to an asana class are unaware of this backstory, or even of ahimsa as yoga's first moral precept.
This presentation is about how we can bring this aspect of yoga tradition into our classes and conversations without arousing discomfort or anger. Topics covered in this workshop:

In this open forum, we’ll explore Satya (truthfulness) as a living practice of honesty, authenticity, and integrity. Together we’ll reflect on how we discern and express truth with compassion, and how truth and non-violence support one another in our lives and teaching.
All Integral Yoga teachers are welcome, no matter your years of practice or experience.

What does it mean to live in abundance, free from the need to take what is not ours—as a teacher, a practitioner, and a human being?
Join us for the Third Series of our open discussions exploring the Yamas and Niyamas through the lens of lived experience.
In this open forum, we’ll explore Asteya (non-stealing) as a living practice of integrity and trust. Together we’ll reflect on how we cultivate a sense of inner completeness and how this manifests as respecting the resources, energy, and creations of others in our lives and teaching.
Thoughts and Questions to Contemplate....
· How does the concept of Asteya translate from the physical act of not stealing to more subtle forms, such as stealing someone's time, energy, or ideas?
· In a world of constant digital content and inspiration, how do we practice Asteya as yoga teachers and students in relation to intellectual property and creative work?
· When we feel a sense of lack or "not enough," how does that feeling lead us toward a mind of stealing, even if just subtly? How can our practice help us cultivate a sense of abundance?
· What is the relationship between Asteya and trust? How does our personal practice of non-stealing impact the trust we build within our communities and with our students?
· Think of a time when you truly honored another person's space, time, or work without feeling a sense of desire or envy. What did that feel like?
